"My inner-city third grade students are hard workers who are always eager to complete their assignments unfortunately they do not always have a sharpened pencil to get the job done.

My classroom is equipped with a wall-mounted manual sharpener. However, it is old, does not have a cover and the dull blades eat the pencils instead of sharpen them. I am unable to sharpen a pencil with the sharpener and my students have even less success with it.

My class would love to have a heavy duty electric pencil sharpener that could withstand the use of 24 students. A heavy duty electric pencil sharpener would save pencils, allow extra time for the students to work and spare the students tears and frustration from chewed up pencils.

Your generosity will ensure that my students begin each day on a positive note. Something as small as a sharpened pencil means so much to my students.

My students need one heavy duty electric pencil sharpener.

Dear Douglas, Brandon, Sallie Mae Indianapolis and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you so much for funding our project. I really appreciate your generosity and kindness. It has been wonderful to have an electronic pencil sharpener for our class.
Before we received our fabulous electric pencil sharpener, the students and I spent our morning frustrated as we tried to sharpen pencils with our old wall mounted sharpener. It ate more pencils than I care to remember. It also ate valuable instructional time. It is so nice to be able to sharpen a pencil in a few seconds without any tears. My students eagerly line up to sharpen their pencils so they can get started on their work. The students sharpen 3 pencils each morning so they will have spares to use throughout the day. Word has gotten out that we have a dandy electric sharpener so we have students coming from other classrooms to use it, too.
The electric sharpener has helped the students in more ways than I realized it would. It has taught them that there are kind people out there who are willing to help others. They were overwhelmed when I opened the box and unveiled the electric sharpener. The discussion quickly led to how they were going to help others when they are older. Thank you for helping teach my students an important life lesson.

With gratitude,
Mrs. P.

Dear Douglas, Brandon, Sallie Mae Indianapolis and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you so very much for funding our project. My students were ecstatic to hear that our project had been funded. They cannot wait to receive the electric pencil sharpener. It will be awesome to have a class of students with sharpened pencils. This will eliminate the search for sharpened pencils each time we begin a new assignment. I hope you understand the value of having a working sharpener in the classroom. We will no longer lose valuable instructional time trying to find a sharpened pencil or struggling to sharpen one with the old wall unit that is in the classroom. Your generosity has improved the quality of life in our classroom.

With gratitude,
Mrs. P.
