I am a second grade dual language teacher at a predominantly Latino populated school within a working-class community. For the first time ever in five years, I am in a classroom that includes a new and in good shape television. Unfortunately, our school was vandalized last year and the new DVD player attached to this television was stolen. My students keep asking when they will be able to watch videos and keep offering to bring DVDs connecting to the themes we are learning about. I too, with a collection of DVDs and videos in hand eager to share with them to add to the themes of our classroom, have had to explain in simple terms that without a DVD and/or video player, the television is of little use. It is just the start of the school year and there is still much more to come. I am optimistic and I hope that I will be able to get a DVD/video player soon for our television to offer an alternate method of delivering and supplementing our instruction. I am asking to have a DVD and video player for our class television. We will be covering various class themes and students would benefit by being able to watch and learn from endless educational videos that I have in hand and that I would like to count on as part of future instruction. Your help will make the greatest difference in my students' educational experience. By making it possible to bring this simple item into the classroom, you will help me utilize other possible teaching resources and make numerous possibilities of imagination and learning come to life with a simple click.
