Pink, Pink, Pink...what a wonderful color! You guessed it...it is my favorite!! I am an avid collector of flamingos, and throughout the year (EVERY YEAR) most of my students start sharing my love of flamingos too. Every orifice of our classroom has a flamingo on it. When kids see flamingo items outside of school, they tell me about it. I have had several students whom I have "run into" several years after having taught them, and they always say, "Every time I see a flamingo, I think of you." As quirky as that may seem, I feel good about it. I know that I have a place in their hearts and minds, and when they see the fine-feathered bird, they think of me. This is my idea: Since I seem to make such an impact on my students with my love of flamingos, I would like to purchase several books about flamingos to use in my classroom. I KNOW that my students would love them. What is so great about the books that I have selected is that they are from a variety of genres, including nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, etc. My principal would gladly purchase these items for me because even though my principal is not an avid collector of flamingos, she can see the impact I am making on my kids. However, our district is one of the poorest in the state, and does not have extra money for supplementary items such as these. My 19-3rd graders and I are thanking you, in advance, for your consideration and generosity.
