Computers help students with special needs learn. I teach fifth grade learning and multiple disabled students in a low socio-economic school district. All of my students receive free lunch and cannot afford their own computers at home.

My students lack the technological experience that many other children their age have due to exposure. There are many different software programs that help to increase literacy in special needs students. My students are all struggling readers who fall well below grade level in all areas.

Special needs students require different modes of learning. For fifth grade students, the computer offers this opportunity. What a great way to reinforce skills and engage students in their own learning! Using educational computer software brings learning to life for my students. For special needs students, technology appeals to their visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles.

You can make it possible for economically disadvantaged children who are learning disabled to increase literacy and technological skills. Your help will make a difference. When children are engaged and interested, miracles happen! In order to have a successful future, we need to hook them now! These children need to go into the world being able to read and use technology.
