My students would greatly appreciate 3 sets of books on CDs with accompanying texts so students can listen to and read books on our classroom iPods.

Hello and thank you for looking at Feeder Fish for Sharks. I am a fourth grade special education teacher. My students range in reading ability, which is expected in a special education. My goal is to get my students reading more and to come to love reading. Many of the students are reluctant readers and can not find books they enjoy in the library (both classroom and school library). My request for books on CDs, will help my students in many ways.

I recently purchased a couple of iPods to use in my classroom as listening centers. (I purchased them out of my personal funds.) I found portable CD players broke easily in my room. The one that I had bought was broken within a two day period. I calculated the cost to purchase a new CD player every time one would break and determined it to be cheaper to buy an iPod. ipods also have a re-chargeable battery, this means that I will save money because I will not have to buy new batteries. Another advantage to having the iPods in my classroom, is that I can easily change the story on each iPod to reflect the lessons that I am teaching. Now that we have iPods we need more books on CD to use with the iPods. Before coming to Donors Choose, I went to my school library to find out if we had any books on CDs, I was greatly disappointed. My school library does not have any books on CD, so I am turning to the great donors that are out there. Please help fund my Feeder Fish which will support my Sharks.

The resources that I need include easy readers that partner with audio-CDs. Students will be able to listen to the story either with an iPod (after being downloaded from itunes) or on a CD player. Students will also be able to read because these books are on their reading levels. These books will also keep students engaged, these stories are high interest and students can relate them to their lives. Using books on CDs allows students to hear the desired reading fluency or the clarity of reading. Not only will these books build fluency for students, it will also increase the reading comprehension for my students.

Your help will ensure that my students begin to love reading and allow them to start increasing their reading ability. When funded, students will also have more choices on what they can read and listen to. I have many boys in my classroom and they tend to veer away from reading because they can not find a book of interest.
