Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Inspire my students through art history. I have been teaching art for the past 8 years. My current school consists of very high need families. Most of my students or their families are immigrants from the West Indies, the Caribbean, South America, India, and Yemen. They come to this country with high expectations for a good education. Most of my students are smart, determined, respectful, and have a love of learning. I also take pride in the fact that art is one of their favorite subjects, and I can bring it to grades K-5 once a week. I have so much to teach them, and they are always ready to learn, donations from people like you help to enrich their programs, and foster their creativity. Even the students who don't speak English yet, communicate through their art. Art is the universal language, and with your help I can have so many more resources to teach it with.

First, I am running out of art supplies. Some of my students don't even have crayons and markers to begin the school year with. I am also running low on paper which is the staple of my program. I teach over 150 kids a week and we go through many supplies. I need to get more papers, crayons, and markers to last for the rest of the year. Next, I usually use power point presentations, posters, and books to educate my students about artists of the past. They love learning about famous artists, become really excited, and get inspired in their own artwork after viewing art from the masters. I do the best I can with resources, however, with your help I can order DVD sets to use to supplement my lesson plans when we are studying famous artists. These DVDs would be an amazing way to really teach my students about art. I would never be able to afford these DVDs on my own, and am reaching out to you to help with my program.

My students would greatly benefit if you donated the funds to supply us with the papers, markers, crayons, and DVDs. The audio visual component would really entertain them, while they learn about great artists. They would then use what they learn to create their own inspired work. My students would benefit from these DVDs by having a greater visual representation of famous work. Their vocabulary would grow, their knowledge of history and different cultures would improve. They will also be more eager to create after seeing and learning about these captivating artists. I know that when they have a greater visual representation, their artwork comes out better. Artists learn by looking at art. My students self esteem will rise because they will know that they are excelling in the arts. They will see themselves growing as artists, and their knowledge of art will expand as well.

I can imagine my students moving on to junior high school and impressing their teachers, parents, and peers with their knowledge of art history. With your help my students will become better artists, more cultured about world history and more well rounded. They will also be so excited and so grateful when they hear about the donations we receive from caring people like you. We really depend on donors choose for many of the extra goodies we get for the art program. My students and I will be so appreciative, and it will show not only on their faces, in their thank you cards, but most of all it will show in their artwork and their creativity. Please make this possible for us.
