Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I Can Read, Write and Speak Can You? Hi, I am a 7th Grade In-class Support Teacher working in an inner city school. Many of my students are of Hispanic Culture and low social economic status with English as a Second Language and Specific Learning Disabilities needs. They are not able to get any help from parents at home so what they receive from the school is all they have to work with. Can you imagine being in a classroom and not being able to write or speak because you can’t keep up with your peers? In our classroom my students are expected to compose many different types of writing pieces throughout the year just as their non learning disabled peers. My students already have a difficult time with written expression, organizing thoughts on paper, as well have grammar and spelling problems. This presents a challenge for them and becomes more of a frustratingly task instead of an educational task. I would like for this to change! I want them to become life long writers. I would like ask for the Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 Speech Recognition Program. The Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 Speech Recognition Program is ground breaking in that it will give my students the opportunity to speak and have their words turned to text. This is computing software which with the assistance of a microphone converts the spoken language into computer applications such as word processing. Dragon lets the operator dictate directly into word processing software avoiding the need to use the keyboard for typing. The software spells accurately, and some applications of the software have audio feedback which makes proof checking easier, especially for Specific Learning Disabled and English as Second Language Learners who have reading and writing difficulties. In conclusion, I really hope that you will be willing to help my students with their need to improve their writing ability which will help them become productive both in and out of the classroom and for their entire lives. Imagine the smiles that you could create by taking part in this life altering quest. I want my students to read, write and speak just like you and I.
