Time for Kids Magazine for Third Grade

Our third grade at Civicorps needs 40 issues per month or week of the Time for Kids periodicals. We don't have a social studies curriculum so this will really help what we are already designing. It also does wonders for reading comprehension. Thank you!

Ms. Mills Civicorps Elementary School
Oakland, CA Grades 3-5

Our third grade citizen learners and leaders at Civicorps elementary are such caring students! We are a charter school in a high need community. Our charter focuses on Service Learning and the Arts. We recently participated in the Creek to Bay clean up and saved 150lbs of garbage from making it into the bay. Our service learning would go well with the current events in Time for Kids Magazine.

We as teachers at Civicorps are working very creatively to create all our own curriculum. We are pulling from various experts for writing and reading. We have Foss kits for science, but we are always putting in extra hours designing better lessons to fit the standards, inspire and educate our students.

This Time for Kids subscription would really help ease some of my work load as well as broaden my students' learning. We were not provided with any social studies curriculum. I still plan on teaching about Native Americans and the other third grade social studies standards. Yet to me, current events are also very important and relevant to my student's lives. It will also effectively help teach reading comprehension. Reading and understanding nonfiction text is an important goal for third grade.

Your help will inspire my students with new service learning projects. The fourth graders were reading an article about poverty in African countries affecting school attendance and were inspired to start a donation project where they will be learning about each of the countries they send supplies to. I am sure my students will find some need in the articles, and we can turn it into service learning by writing letters and helping out with an issue they choose. This magazine will become such a powerful tool. I will document the work it inspires and let you know how well it is being used!
