I teach all subjects to a great group of third grade students who are enthusiastic about learning!

I think that, as a teacher, it is my job to try my best to prepare them for life. Part of life today includes the use of various types of technology. Children and adults are using technology to learn, work, and communicate. I am trying my best to "keep up with the times". To do this, I have set up a class website; we are going to start podcasting. I encourage my students to use the Internet as a tool and window to new information, and I have given the opportunity for my students to participate in blogging, so their voices can be heard! Students like to be on the computer. They like to be able to go home and teach their parents something new. You can have a child fill in a worksheet on what they learned in a particular subject to check their comprehension of certain objectives. But is it as engaging as podcasting about the content? I don't think so, and the students would agree with me, too.

I have talked to other teachers in the area, and I have done my research on using iPods in the classroom. I am requesting 2 iPods with protective cases for my students to use. In the ideal world, I would like to have a class set, but I'll start with two for now! The iPods will be great resources for my students. It will allow me to better differentiate instruction and provide modifications. Just a few of the ways I plan to use the resources include: students with reading difficulties will be able to listen to reading selections on their instructional level in different subjects, students will be able to listen to lessons that have been missed, students will be able to listen to podcasts they or their peers have created, students will be able to participate in interactive learning, I will be able to provide oral administrations of tests without interrupting other students, students will be able to listen to and/or watch educational songs and videos, and students will be able to listen to compositions they have written.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my request. I honestly believe that having these resources will help my students be challenged, engaged, and successful in learning. When students are successful at a young age, I think they are more inclined to strive for success later in life!
