Our students need to experience the fun side of reading. I teach middle school students in an alternative-classroom setting in a small, rural district in North Florida.

My students that are here have been transferred here for various reasons. A lot of the time their behaviors have stemmed from the frustrations of not being able to read. They have not had many successes or had the pleasure of just reading for fun.

With the bean bags, we can have an afternoon of just reading. They can take off their shoes and stretch out on the bean bags to read, read, read. There is no talking except at the end of the time when they can share a particular reading with classmates.
