TIME for Kids to Read Current Events!!!

My students need 28 copies of TIME for Kids so that they have exposure to current events, particularly in an election year!

How do we connect kids to the world around us? What kinds of media are they exposed to on a daily basis? These 5th grade kids often rely on the radio or TV to gather information about the world happening around them. Newspapers and magazines are rarely considered a form of valuable information. By donating Time for Kids magazine, the kids will be required to do a weekly written essay on a current event of their choice, thus bolstering the importance of reading current events as well as their writing skills. Additionally, the election year makes these current events invaluable in teaching about government and civics.

If even interested, these 5th grade kids often rely on the radio or TV to gather information about the world happening around them. Often, I find them discussing the latest scandal related to the hottest hip-hop star and not information affecting the world around them. By donating Time for Kids magazine, the kids will be required to do a weekly written essay on a current event, thus bolstering the importance of reading current events as well as their persuasive writing skills. Additionally, the election year makes these current events invaluable in teaching about government, civics and what roles they play in the world.

With Time for Kids With TIME for Kids, 5th graders will no longer be isolated from events that make history or shape our future! You can’t imagine the connections these 5th graders are able to make between reading materials in the classroom and real world events. We don’t want to stifle the momentum they have built through previous exposure!

The impact you will have on these students is immeasurable! Each student will receive a copy of TIME for Kids each week and a writing assignment, often a persuasive essay, which is an area of great concern for these kids. Daily practice can only help them improve their writing skills and world knowledge! Please help these 5th graders in their academic goals.
