Hello generous donors!! I teach 4th grade - all subjects at a Title One School. 89% of our students come from low income families. My students are amazing, but lack exposure to so many things. This is a challenge I eagerly accept because I am able to light that spark in their eyes and show them that learning is FUN!!

Now donors, as I type this, my students are telling me what to say. You see, we are reading as a class - Diary of a Wimpy Kid --Rodrick Rules -- and my students LOVE it! I have never seen students so excited about reading and writing. They started their own diaries and have really taken an interest in reading!!!! So we were searching online for information about the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series when we came across book #3. My class went BONKERS!!! They began begging me and begging me to pllllleeeeaaassseee get book #3 so we can read it as soon as we finish book #2. If you could see my class at this moment, they all have smiles on their faces, some are down on their knees, some have their fingers crossed, and they are all begging with all their might that you would donate the money so we could all enjoy book #3!!! Now, this is a sight I have NEVER seen before. My students started out the school year with a whole negative attitude about reading, but through Diary of a Wimpy Kid, their love for reading has developed!

So, I --well they just corrected me -- WE are asking for a class set of Last Straw (book #3) so that their love for reading can continue to grow.

With your generous donation you will first and foremost, cause my entire class to be as excited as they are at Christmas time! You will help us smile for the entire 2 months we read this book. My class will continue to grow as writers and readers. Words can't describe the difference you will make in their lives. These students come from homes where they don't even own one book. So this particular book will become their prize possession. They have already told me that they will allow me to keep this book so that classes for years to come can enjoy it like they will. So please, from 22 begging 4th graders and one hopeful teacher, make our wish come true!! Bring the Last Straw to our classroom-- you will make us happier than you will ever know!!! As we read the book each day, we will remember that it is thanks to generous donors like you, that it was all possible!!!
