Lego Robotic Engineering Program

My students need rechargeable AA batteries. These batteries power the LEGO Mindstorm Robotic Kits. Our current battery supply has been reused repeatedly over the last 4 years and most of those batteries do not hold much of a charge any longer and need replacement.

I am a 7th grade mathematics teacher, and the lead instructor and coordinator of our Robotic Engineering program at my school. Students from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade all participate in this program during and after school. A majority of the participants are in the 7th grade. My specific team/classroom is an inclusion, special needs class with students of varying abilities from the lowest to the highest

I coordinate and implement a Robotic Engineering program at my school. Students working in teams and with partners to create their own personal robot using the LEGO Mindstorm Robotic kit which run on AA batteries. They program their robots to overcome various theme based challenges and missions such as rescuing an oil tanker wrecked on a reef, or rescuing stranded wildlife.

AA batteries are the life blood of the robot, and without them, the program cannot run. With newer and fresher batteries, more students are able to participate simultaneously in the program both during and after school. This program is a creative, fun hands on project that develops and fosters student participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Your help will ensure that my students robots are functioning and available every day. There is nothing more frustrating to a student than to have written a complex program for their robot to perform to achieve a complex challenge, and have the robot not perform accurately or at all due to lack of energy. Thank you so much for helping my students be able to fully enjoy the benefits of this program with the help of your donation.
