Dr. Jones from Capitol Heights MD is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a TI-84 Plus School Pack of calculators capable of computing the high-level mathematics they are learning this year.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is the most challenging academic program we offer at my high school. However, many students enter the program with deficits in mathematics, as they may have been accepted to the interdisciplinary program because of their strengths in English or History, not Math and Science. Everyone in the IB program is required to take IB Math Studies, so we have students at all levels and abilities. Specifically, one third of this group earned a C or D in Algebra 2, the prerequisite course. The seniors in this group are taking the class a year later than their peers, because they were behind in the mathematics course sequence.
My students take IB Math Studies, which covers a wide range of topics from statistics to calculus. So they need calculators that can work with sequences and series, matrices, perform statistical tests, and run financial formulas.
Having a TI-84 Plus School Pack of calculators means they can spend more time thinking about the mathematical concepts they are learning.
Rather than repeating rote calculations, I want them to be able to harness the tools and technology that they cannot afford to purchase for themselves.
My students are preparing for the IB exams, which measure their ability against international standards of excellence. With the right technology, they can compete on an even footing with the rest of the world.
