Welcome to 10th grade algebra II in our nation's capital. Our public charter school is working relentlessly to close the achievement gap by providing opportunities for students to take rigorous Advanced Placement courses. All of the students in 10th grade algebra II plan to take AP Calculus AB as seniors. We also have a dozen 9th graders in our classes that will take both AP Calculus AB and BC before graduating from high school.

It is not just about learning the skills, but more importantly, it is about developing a conceptual understanding of algebra II. Students crave real world connections. They want to know that parabolic flight is modeled with a quadratic function. Their eyes light up when they see a superimposed parabola on a picture of something in the real world. Additionally, they see transformations come alive by modeling cornrows with software provided by a professor at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute.

To truly model mathematics in the real world, I need an LCD projector to share photos, software, and short film clips with the entire class.

Your donation will ensure that more students get excited about math, thus are interested in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). You will help students that are underrepresented in STEM fields, women and African-Americans, finish high school ready to compete with students from more affluent communities. You will help inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and doctors.
