Please help me make books come to life. I teach 3rd grade in a wonderful community. Daily, parents pour their heart out to me expressing the wishes for their child. Many of the families in this community live in poverty, but sincerely want what is best for their children.

In a world driven by technology, I want to give my students an even playing field for projects. Digital imaging will allow students to integrate reading and technology , but in their unique way. They become the characters and directors of their own version of the book. What better way to get kids excited about reading.

I need two digital cameras for small groups to use while creating their movie. Students will use costumes and small props to act out books they have read. They will take pictures of the scenes and create a movie using Windows Movie Maker. The first unit I hope to use the equipment for is our study of influential Americans. Students will focus on one person. While studying the biography of one famous person, students will learn facts about them and come to school dressed as that person for a living wax museum. Students will take turns taking pictures for one another. Students will use those pictures to make a biographical movie of the person they chose. These will be highlighted at the next Parent Teacher Meeting. What an awesome way to truly make books come alive!

The students in my community have extremely limited resources. Please help me encourage my students to believe that the sky is the limit. Your help will ensure that they have inspiring experiences with technology and rich literature. I can just see their bright faces getting excited about reading. Please help me in making lifetime learners and readers.
