Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 20 inquisitive, social first graders. Most of my students are English Language Learners and most come from poverty backgrounds.

Noise pollution is a real problem, For me, it means almost constantly raising my voice just to be heard and understood over our air system. If the students get excited about what they are doing the volume raises again, and I need to literally shout to get their attention. I find myself becoming hoarse throughout the school year. I have also had throat surgery which makes my voice weaker. Between the street sounds outside, the cooling system that circulates air rather noisily all the time, and these high-energy children, it is often difficult to hear yourself think, let alone speak loud enough to keep the class' attention.

This portable microphone system would enable me to speak in a normal tone of voice as well as enable the kids to practice their public speaking. Often they are very shy in front of their peers, and a microphone will help them to speak up, be heard, and be understood.

I hope that you will consider funding this project. It will enable me to teach more effectively and enable my students to become better public speakers at an early age. My classroom needs a portable microphone system the can be used hands-free.
