We have NO books!!! I moved to a brand new school this year. While it is a wonderful place to be, we simply don't have everything that existing schools have on hand. We don't have a book closet at all because we don't have any class sets of books. My 21 students are all eager to read and very excited about being at the new school. But they have all been asking when they will get their own copies of our read alouds to follow along as I read. These fourth graders are bursting to read with me!

At this brand new school, we have wonderful technology, brand new desks, beautifully painted walls, and excited children. It just seems that we are missing something without a book closet. Can you imagine a school without BOOKS! Our library has new books for students, but not class sets. And the library is even limited because of only purchasing the books on one year's budget. It's a shame to be the brand new school in the district with a shiny new building and not take advantage of the excitement to get kids into novel studies. We want to SHARE Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, by Judy Blume, rather that just listen to me read it!

One class set will be a place to start. It will allow the students to participate in shared reading. They will also be able to catch up on what we read if they are absent. Judy Blume's Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is a fantastic start to really catch their attention early in the year. It makes the kids laugh and always coaxes them to turn the page for more!
