This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have 27 amazing and different first graders in my classroom. Each one of them is special to me in a different way. Each day I feel like mom, grandma, nurse, teacher, (sometimes dad), and any other person that may take care of a child. I even get called those names on a daily basis. My little ones are so special to me and even I have a hard time providing for them some days.

I teach in a high poverty elementary school where most of the parents are not able to provide necessary school supplies to get through a day. After the budget is spent for the year we are forced to buy supplies from the store out of our own pockets. Sometimes it comes down to sharing broken, old crayons, and two inch pencils without erasers until payday. I have also found this week that I do not even have enough scissors for my students and they are sharing. This year we are even required to buy our own paper if we would like to make copies.

I am requesting copy paper, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, pencils and erasers for my students. Shortly into the school year we will run out of these necessary things and I will be buying them out of pocket from the store. We also get new students often. By the second half of the year I am salvaging what is left of the supplies or asking my neighbor teachers for supplies just to find a box of crayons for a student.

I love my group of 27 anxious and excited first graders and I would love to be everything to them. Please help me provide for their basic educational needs. 27 students would have their entire year made by receiving these supplies.
