Preparing Little Hands

My students need a supply of play dough, with materials for shaping, cutting, forming, and stamping it.

This year I moved down the grades to teach a wonderful, very energetic group of Kindergartners. They are so sweet and so ready to learn, but have come to school with some very serious gaps in development. After watching for the first few weeks, I have noticed that many kids cannot hold a pencil, cut a piece of paper, or tie their shoes correctly. I am truly starting at the beginning and I want to make it a fun journey. I am asking for a playdough set: a collection of brightly colored balls of playdough and a collection of dough stamps, scissors, rollers, and trimmers so the kids can play while they learn. How much fun would it be to come to school and be practicing the basics of cutting and writing, but with playdough, instead of scary paper. Imagine a group of children learning how to safely hold scissors and practice cutting, but if they make a mistake, get to roll it up and try again. In addition, I am asking for letter stamps for the dough so I can have kids practice spelling and writing when we get further into the year. Afterall, its so much more fun, and environmental, to roll dough up when we write the wrong letter than throw away the paper or get out the erasers. Please help give my kids a chance to develop some very basic skills in a fun, safe way. Thank you.
