Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Timing is everything...and what a terrific way to bring technology into my literacy block. I am very fortunate to be the teacher of 5th and 6th graders in one combined classroom this year. My combined classroom consists of 90% ESL students who speak Spanish, French, and Bosnian.

My students are from lower social economic situations and cannot afford to buy books, let alone technology to engage their learning and develop new schema and connections to the real world.

With the added digital bookmarks, my students will be able to set their timers and self-monitor their independent reading. They will be able to take charge and practice their comprehension skills and fluency to become "great readers."

I currently have only one digital timer in my classroom and all of my students want a chance to read with the bookmarks. What has become a sharing situation is turning into an internal challenge. All of my students want to read past the set time. With the digital bookmarks, my students really get into their reading. They are usually shocked when the timer goes off. I really wish all students could have access to the digital bookmarks. It would empower all of my students to be Great Readers.
