Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My class is "Bananas Bout Books." The problem is that I can not find books that are interesting to my eighth graders. When asked to tell what books they prefer, their responses were, "Books about music and sports." I went to a local bookstore and bought a few new books. They went "bananas." I can only imagine how they will react to new books for everyone.

Like many teenagers, my kids will read but usually will read willingly when they have things that they are interested in reading. Many of these kids are struggling in reading but with the purchase of new and interesting books, they will become more motivated to read.

The purchase of these new books will motivate the students to read. Each day our school devote 15 minutes to SSR. My students make excuses about not having a book. They will no longer be able to say that they do not have a book.

My kids are good kids. Just like many kids their age, they tune out those things that are not of interest to them. Help me to get the books that they are interested in.
