I teach at a small K-8 school in CO. The school has a diverse student body representing over fifty countries (1st and 2nd generation immigrants). Ours is a Core Knowledge school, offering a rigorous, content-rich curriculum. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies.

Remember the old adage "The dog ate my homework"? Well, this saying has been replaced by a handful of excuses related to technology. "Our printer is broken!" "We are out of ink at home" "The computer crashed!" As a Language Arts teacher, I hear these excuses routinely.

My Language Arts students are required to complete countless literary analysis, research and persuasive essays. Although it is optional, many of them like to type their papers - obviously great preparation for high school and college. Many of students have difficulties transferring files from home to school and vice-versa. I would like to provide my students with USB drives to eliminate these excuses related to work completion.

The USB drives will empower students to take advantage of word processing programs and editing features. USB drives will also make the writing process far more efficient - allowing us to complete more assignments. Furthermore, students will also be able to work on class PowerPoint presentations at home. Technological literacy is critical to student success and these USB drives will help to strengthen student skills in this area.
