I started off there through Teach For America and stayed on because I love the community that we have worked so hard to build here.
This year, I was very excited to start a music program for grades K-2. Up until this point, we had no music program available for them which I found to be so sad. I remember going to school when I was little and being so excited for music that I could hardly contain myself! Now that I have started the program, I am desperately searching for materials to help this program be as successful as I had dreamed. As this is the second week of school, I have noticed that the square rug I have is NOT going to work! It is very hard to sing songs, play instruments as a class, and do movement activities, when children are in lines and can not see one another. I need a circular rug badly! I try to get the students in a circle now, yet it wastes at least 5 minutes of each lesson. (Have you ever tried to get 30 little ones in a circle on a small rug?) If I had a rug where everyone could sit comfortably and face one another, it would cut down on playing, fighting, and the accidental "bumping into" of one another.
Something as simple as a rug will really help my students. Every music teacher I have asked says this is a MUST! I am just so thrilled to be putting music into the hands of these students, that adding a circular rug will be the icing on my cake! Please help make our dream a reality. With your help my classroom will be filled with students who are learning in a safe, fun, CIRCULAR environment! Thank you so much for taking the time to help us out! My students need a round carpet for music class.
