Studying the Rainbow

My students need 30 hand-held spectroscopes to study the rainbow and bright-line spectrum.

Ms. D. Bradwell Institute
Hinesville, GA Grades 9-12

I teach physical science, physics and chemistry in a large school that supports a high-need community. As a high energy teacher I have no problem getting my students interested and motivated.

The main problem I encounter is limited science equipment AND what I do have is in poor condition. My students get such a kick out of studying atomic spectrum by viewing the rainbow and the bright line spectrum but they must wait as the few spectroscopes we have are passed around the room.

15 spectroscopes will allow lab teams to study the atomic spectrum at the same time. They will be able to collaborate, analyze, discuss, and reach conclusions.

The look on their faces when they 'get it' is so exhilarating. They love to learn and are so patient when they must share or even do with out. That is what they are used to. You have the opportunity to change that and open their world to quantum chemistry, atomic spectrum, and the simple natural beauty of the rainbow.
