Technology savvy special education students are begging to be challenged and engaged! I teach math, science, and social studies, grades 4-6. My school is on the upswing with encouraging the implementation of technology and allowing full student access. We have presented quite a few challenging behaviors, but have found that part of the motivation of these students is hands-on, interactive activities and lessons.

My students need to be able to capture images of people, insects, and scenery as we "travel" on our many scientific expeditions! I teach a great bunch of kids math and science, and with the use of disposable cameras, we have been successful in our photography, even being able to connect math with charts and graphs of data from our photos. However, the costs associated with film developing and the limitations disposable cameras present have hindered us from creating PowerPoint and Photostory slideshows. The students are ready and willing to bump up the level of our assignment, but limited resources are preventing the move. We are engaged and technology savvy, we just need the technology! My students face challenges of poverty and single- parent homes, but they are still eager to learn and are active participants in their learning. They have each donated some of their own money to help with costs of disposable cameras and film developing, enjoying the time we spend outside the classroom doors communing with nature.

We are in need of a digital camera to avoid film processing fees and allow students the ability to see their work displayed in projects and on our classroom wall. The printer will enable the students to create exciting documents that include their photographs and publish to share with friends, family, and fellow classmates.

Help to make my class feel deserving and special by providing needed equipment that may open the doors to not only future scientists and mathematicians, but possibly photographers!
