Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a seventh grade, departmentalized math teacher at low income school. I teach reading to my homeroom as well mathematics to over 120 students. Getting my students to read is challenging.

Have you ever tried to get a student to pick-up a newspaper or a magazine without getting a comment like, "Do I have to?" Today, most students use the Internet for a resource and they don't want to pick up a dictionary, encyclopedia, or a magazine!

The resources that I need are a set of magazines for the students. They would be a great tool to help students explore the world at large and get an experience reading meaningful nonfiction texts. They will use the stories in the article analyze news stories. Student will learn about government, geography, culture and religion.

Each week we will spend time learning about different cultures and religions while celebrating their differences. Find it in your heart to bring cultural awareness to a group of inner city diverse 7th graders.
