Archery Gear To Start Our Club

My students need bows and targets to learn and practice archery.

The kids made me do it! During the school day at our middle school, I teach 6th grade science and mathematics, but before and after school, I am the archery club teacher. In our high-need desert community, students often lack opportunities to participate in a broad range of activities they would enjoy. Our school is crowded, and many of our students go home to empty houses and apartments.

Our club is brand-new, started because my students last year begged for it when I brought in my archery equipment on Sports Day during Spirit Week. It took months to get the District approvals needed, but it was approved, and the school year has started off with a huge amount of interest. However, we don't have any equipment!

We need a few basics to get started: targets and bows especially. There are many students interested (our very first meeting, announced only by word of mouth, had 16 students and two adults in attendance). Through membership in the archery club, students will have an opportunity to gain proficiency in a skill of their own choosing. They will also have support in their academic classes, as I make regular progress reports, and tutoring or other assistance as needed, a requirement of membership.

By donating this equipment, you will make it possible for my students to learn a sport which develops personal goal-setting, focus, and confidence, all of which will help prepare them for success in their lives, in and out of school.
