Super Second graders become fluent readers and boost standardized testing scores. I teach second grade in a low income school, with ESL children.

My students desperately need to build their fluency skills and comprehension. It is difficult for the students to practice their silent reading because second graders feel the need to read aloud to comprehend the text. The tough part is finding enough reading material at varying levels or having enough copies of a book to work with students during group time.

By providing my class with hear myself reading phones it would eliminate the need to read aloud. They could read into the phone to hear themselves. Students would feel more confident in their reading if they were able to read books more on their level. This is where the leveled libraries would be beneficial.

Your help will ensure that my students will be reading books on their grade level and be able to understand what they are reading. Helping us out would be a big step in the fight for more fluent readers.
