Have you ever watched a fourth grader don a clown wig and give an impromptu infomercial on a product she designed two minutes ago? I have, and the creativity of my students astounds me on a daily basis. I teach Gifted Education in a very low-income, extremely high-energy Elementary School. My students love reading, writing, creating, playing and just generally have a beautiful lust for life.

The issue that my students face: our tiny school budget is so crammed with necessities, that we don't have the funds to buy enrichment books. The originality of my students is so heartwarming, that I feel personally compelled to do everything I can to help that grow. My students have asked specifically for chapter books. Our community doesn't often find the support that they need for small items like children's books.

I have a illuminating unit on the Fantasy genre of books. These books will align with the Pennsylvania National Educational Standards in Reading Curriculum. This unit will expand the knowledge and creativity of my students by giving them opportunities to read award-winning books with peers on their intellectual levels.

By supporting my students, you are giving them the power to be creative. You are helping them to be children, in this world where we teach students to be test takers. You will help to keep that magical spark of creativity for one more year.
