No one could argue that the year 2016 has been a confusing, horrific, interesting, spell binding and pivotal year for young people. One of the first things we will learn about in law class is how the media interacts with the legal and justice system to bring information to people in the form of social networking, newspapers and digital media.
My students are young, but they want to learn, understand and have real answers to confusing and controversial issues.
I have freshmen students who will be exploring things like justice, unsolved crimes, parole and the meaning of "another chance". We will look at historical and contemporary legal issues and we will do it in the style of the old fashioned newspaper reporter asking who, what, where, when and most importantly-why?
My Project
Public opinion is a compound of folly, weakness, prejudice, wrong feeling, right feeling, obstinacy, and newspaper paragraphs.
- Robert Peel
As an educator, you work to try to help students understand why they think as they do. Where did they form the opinions and biases and values that influence how they see the world? You help them come to realize that for many generations, what makes it into the media, what they read in the newspaper and in other journalism outlets like social media can influence the behavior of the few and the masses.
Your donation to this product will add engagement and technology into my classroom. I have the 14 year olds and I need to teach in a way that is meaningful to this age group, and that is using technology. Having the tablets will allow us to edit our interviews and our speeches. The podium with the microphone will elevate our classroom to a sense of a press conference with our students taking on the role as the commentator, the reporter, the journalist and the attorney.
Students have to learn to speak in public, ask questions for understanding and communicate. I am setting up a classroom where we will do all of the above in class. We will act as investigative reporters and share what we learn with each other and our community.
