"My students make the choice to attend in an inner city, urban high school in Missouri. On the whole, the school services students who are on the whole classified as "high poverty" including students who are recent immigrants, English language learners, supporting their families with after school jobs, or . However, this classification does not do these students the service they deserve. Despite the fact that most of my students face indescribable obstacles in their lives, they continually get up every morning to face those obstacles knowing that their education will help their lives.

Needless to say, schools in urban areas have a difficult situation when it comes to funding. At our school, we have difficulty keeping our copier filled with paper due to large class sizes. Since we have no other method for multimedia presentations (no overhead projector, no TV, no LCD projector) we need to make a few copies per day for each student to ensure they're getting the information they need.

As a first year teacher, my bank account is running on fumes and I'm being stretched to buy copy paper for my classroom. By getting twenty reams of paper for our classroom, we should be set for the year for our copying needs.

In my classroom, these exceptional high schoolers learn physical science, biology, and earth science. My students have difficulty buying basic school supplies like pencils, folders, and notebooks. I'm hoping to implement a "laboratory notebook" in all of my science classes, in the form of composition notebook, but I know that most of my students will have difficulty getting a these basic supplies. By being able to give at least some of my students composition notebooks for free, the stress in those students lives will be alleviated at least a little with one less thing to buy.

With your help, my students will be able to access a great deal of information as well as be able to exhibit their learning. By providing these students with these very basic supplies, you can ensure that each student will be able to excel in a very difficult situation and enable them to change their life paths.

My students need 100 composition notebooks and 20 sets of copy paper.

Mr. D. sent this note after the project was fully funded:

Nov 24, 2008
Dear Seed Media Group, Audrey Rivero, Thomas, Susie, Lynne, Aimee and Anonymous Donors,
Thank you so much for helping fund my project to get my students paper and composition notebooks. I have been doing research about how well interactive "notebooking" works and actually started with one of my sections to test the waters. I have been pleasantly surprised with how excited and invested students get in their laboratory notebooks. I can truly say that my students will be thankful for your gift as they are truly in need.

On Jun 4, 2009, Mr. D. followed this note with student letters sent via mail to the donor who completed this project, and to donors who gave $100 or more.
