I teach third grade a low socio-economic region of Indiana. Our school has an extremely high concentration of free and reduced lunches and textbooks. Many of my students have attention deficits and processing issues. I would love the opportunity to service them with a microphone and help them process what they hear.

Four years ago I had a student who was diagnosed with a processing difficulty. He was provided a cordless microphone and speaker for the classroom. This technology worked tremendously for him; however, what I began to notice was that it impacted every student in my classroom positively. Each child could hear more clearly and took pride in reading passages into the microphone. I began to use the microphone for everything from my lectures, to students sharing their own work to making the books on CD in surround sound within the classroom. When that child moved on to fourth grade, I lost my microphone and was devastated for my new class. At that time, another teacher in the building had acquired the same microphone system and wasn't using it. These were the only two systems in the building and still are.

I need this microphone system so that I can provide an environment for my students that promotes learning and is free from all obstacles, such as not being able to hear over the air conditioner or being able to process low frequency levels.

With your help, these children will be given the opportunity to grow and accel with this system. They will be able to speak at their own level and hear one another. They will be able to hear the directions clearly and process what they hear. They will enjoy and look forward to reading aloud to the class. I know that this system will engage students in this way, because I have personally witnessed it in my classroom. Please help them receive this type of education.
