I am a Special-Ed inclusive teacher at a Title One low income school. All the students in my classroom have special needs or are at risk, and all are on different levels.

Our classroom assessment is done through observation and on a daily basis. Paper and pencil tests for my children are not practical. As you can imagine with 16+ students all at different levels this is almost an impossible task. It is so frustrating to get a good assessment on a child -- with taking notes on children, recording information with post-its and sticky notes all over the classroom, and not being sure of actually what to record! Our funds are so limited that we are unable to get the proper tools to be successful at this. Assessment is so important for children at this age to be able to identify areas of need and build on skills they have already achieved.

I am writing this proposal in hopes to get a PDA-Based, Software monitoring system for our classroom called ChildChart. This is a wonderful tool that was created by Dr. Vardin who is a consultant/child development specialist. ChildChart is a software program used on a desktop computer in conjunction with a hand held device such as a Palm Pilot that will enable me to assess my young children in a much more effective way. We can save time and paper.

Please consider funding my proposal. This assessment tool would be used every day in our classroom. It will benefit many children for many years. With proper and well kept assessment I will be able to provide my students with the activities and lessons they will need to build on the skills that they are weak in.
