Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 3rd grade in a 95% low income urban public school with a mostly Hispanic population.

I am having a difficult time motivating my students to read every day. I have the resources of books to send home with them but I feel that my students do not have anyone to read with or to at home.

This plastic phone shaped device may give my students the feeling that they are being heard. By whom? Themselves. This device allows them to read out loud into this phone shape and they are heard in a whisper voice in their ear. Not only will it help them read more at home but also at school during their free reading time. My hope is this will motivate them to read more at home and at school.

With your help I can assist my students to realize that reading every day is extremely important. I want to teach my students to love to read. It can really take you anywhere you want. Reading is a skill needed to succeed in the future. If my students do not realize how important reading is now they might be lost in the next grade levels. Please help me to see if this device is what they need to be heard when they read.
