Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in first grade bilingual classroom. My students' come to school bright eyed and joyous. They inspire me everyday! They do not use their economic status as an excuse for not being successful. School is the environment where they feel welcomed and their ideas are shared. Their environment is rich with books and little personalities.

A literature rich classroom library and an inviting environment are essential for the success of my students. School is a second home for my students and I would like to create an inviting classroom area where we could sit for our morning message, teacher read aloud, hold our writers workshop meeting, and reading for fun. Students feel a sense of pride when their classrooms look good. I want my students to come in anxious to hold our morning message, writers workshop meeting, teacher read aloud and lay down and enjoy a book.

I currently don't have a rug in my classroom which means the students have to sit on the cold floor during our morning message, writers workshop meeting, teacher read aloud, and simply enjoying a good book. A rug would be a great asset in my classroom and it will be used throughout the course of the day. My current students and future students will be able to enjoy the rug. Building lifelong learners and fluent readers is my ultimate goal.

Your help will ensure that my young students don't need to sit on a cold floor to receive literacy instruction. They will be able to focus on the lessons rather than thinking about how cold their bottoms are becoming. Thank you for your consideration.
