Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Picture this...eager students are learning to type and search the Internet and just as they are about to print, they STOP! The printer makes a sad noise and the lights flash and all goes silent in the classroom...there is no ink for the lonely printer.

My students are in the 1st grade and are way mature beyond their years. Their lives are filled with many problems that six-year-olds should not have to face- Is there enough money at home? Will someone be home to feed them dinner? Will they be able to sleep soundly at night? Many of them have no access to computers and when they use the classroom computers all they want to do is print out their new treasures. Whether it be typing their first sentences or doing a search for Hannah Montana, they are eager to embrace the technology that most of us have access to each day.

My students will benefit from the printer ink in many ways. They will be able to print out their findings and I, as their teacher, will also be able to print out new information or activities that I find on the Internet. I can also quickly type up a letter and translate it to Spanish in minutes...those are just a few benefits of having something so simple as printer ink.

Your help will ensure that my students become aware of the technological world that is around and will provide them with resources that will benefit the entire class community.
