Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a high need community with students who score 1.5 grade levels below in mathematics and in reading. I choose to incorporate fictional books with heavy science content in my middle school science classes to help my students learn science while they work on their reading skills.

My students' parents struggle to afford basic classroom supplies and so I cannot ask them to purchase books for the class.

I need copies of "Code Orange" to help my students learn about disease transmission in an interesting way. My students' reading comprehension would also benefit because this book introduces new terms every few pages as opposed to a textbook which overwhelms them with new material. This book works as a bridge for my students.

Your help will ensure that my students achieve their grade level reading comprehension by the year's end.
