I am the media specialist at an alternative high school in a low-wealth school district. This is my 3rd year at this high school, and I am the first full-time media person the school has had. I have been trying to "beef up" the reference section, especially in science, because I have two teachers who use the materials I have. I have no doubt that they will utilize the new materials in all possible ways, and in as many lessons as possible.

Our students are not familiar with the media center. Nor do they expect to find a lot of useful materials in the media center. We are trying to change their perception of the materials and the media center, as well as make them understand that we think they are important enough to have some really nice things.

By expanding the science reference materials, I know that students will be given an introduction to those materials by their classroom teachers. Creating access to such items will increase the interest in the subject matter that is being taught. Relevant materials will catch the students interest.

Our students have not had direct access to a variety of up-to-date materials. As the media specialist, I will work with classroom teachers to make sure that these materials are fully utilized. Your donation will make it possible for teachers to draw information from a variety of sources, in order to captivate their students interest.
