My students need 2 copies of 29 novels such as "Battle for the Castle" by Elizabeth Winthrop that vary in genre and include sophisticated literary content.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
6th Graders seeking reading material that will challenge their minds! The 6th graders have the potential to accomplish greatness with the necessary tools. Centered in a low income neighborhood, the students face gang violence and other distractions daily. It is my goal to expose them to other outlets in the world.
The students are rarely given the ability to shine on their own. Until my class, the students did not exhibit self-confidence to explore the subject of reading for what is worth. They lack many of the comprehension skills come normal for others. Recently, they have asked for novels that peek their interests and will enable them to explore the world and challenges that others encounter.
Classroom novels are the best tool to enhance the reading program in the classroom. It will allow me as the teacher to instruct small groups, have discussions, and challenges their minds daily. It will allow the students to enter a different world and enhance their reading skills.
With your help, the students will travel without leaving the inner city. They will believe in themselves and begin to feel empowered through their reading skills. I would love to see their faces light up as we discuss topics other than the struggles of the community and with your help, this will be possible.
