Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Fact Number One: Low-income students attend college at much lower rates than students from families with higher incomes. Fact Number Two: Low-income children are less likely to have access to technology and the Internet. Fact Number Three: Technology in classrooms motivates students and has the potential to improve learning. One Clear Answer: Close the digital divide between kids who have computers and those without, enabling more children to develop the skills that will help them succeed now, and in the future. It’s unbelievable, but last year, advertisers payed $2.7 million for a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl. The cost for their project cost big business $90,000 per second, not including the production cost of the commercial. The cost of my proposal is less than 0.2% of what business-marketing directors spent for a Super Bowl commercial. It’s not only cheaper, it is also priceless. With your support, my students will have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain and continue a high quality education. I’m not talking about outfitting my students with $2,000 MacBook’s or even $800 Dell’s. I’m talking about students sharing Eees that sell for about $400 each. Eees? Yes, Asus Eees! They are subnotebook computers that are ready to use the moment they are opened. If a company can afford to spend $2.7 million for 30 seconds, I’m sure together, we can help towards the purchase of technology that will help close the digital divide. Technology that will prepare students for the 21st century, and technology that will motivate students to higher levels of achievement. This proposal is ambitious, and it is meant to be. Ambition is what makes dreams come true. If we tell our students to reach for the stars, then why shouldn’t we? Nobody said we couldn’t work together to reach that high. I thank you in advance for helping us build this ladder to the stars together. Last year we won a Digital Voice Award after receiving donations for a new computer, imagine what we could accomplish with 12 new ones.
