How do you get teenagers interested in reading? To get teens to read, you must give them a choice from books that catch their attention. I teach 11th grade English in a low income high school. I am trying to get them hooked on reading to help improve their future success. I have found that my students are forced to read so many things that don't interest them, that it turns them off to reading. By introducing my students to Young Adult novels, I am trying to get them interested in reading. There are so many books out in the world today that students should not have the excuse they can't find anything they like to read. By getting them to read some Young Adult novels from the South Carolina Young Adult Book Award Nominees, I hope to help them become life-long readers. We will use these books in literature circles and teacher-guided assignments. Some of the books on this list include "Avalon High" by Meg Cabot, "Hit the Road" by Caroline Cooney, "New Moon" by Stephanie Meyer, and "Firestorm" by David Klass. Each of my students should be able to relate to at least one of these books. By reading a Young Adult novel, I hope to get my high school students hooked on reading. It will help them become better students and individuals in the future. I would appreciate you helping my students by proving four copies of each of the 18 titles listed on the South Carolina Young Adult Book Award Nominees list. These are books that all of my students can relate to and hopefully help them become life-long readers.
