We are trying to make Science come alive to enhance the development of students' minds. I teach Science to 6th grade students in an extremely high need school within our school system. Our school was ranked among the lowest in the division. Many of the students come from low economic backgrounds and in many cases receive the bare minimum for survival and in many cases academics (as it relates to resources). These students, however, are some of the best and brightest students in the State of Virginia.

Students learn some of the most excited things in 6th grade science; to include the solar system, energy, weather, the atmosphere, and watersheds. While teaching using a black board or overhead projector is a wonderful tool, advances in technology allows students to be able to see the moon closer than normal or see storms brewing over tropical waters. They don't have the materials to see these things first hand, they must rely on what they are told instead of what they can be shown (to support what was taught).

Students can really see science come alive when they are looking (collectively) at a projected screen and can see their notes, but also an associated picture or video clip. An LCD projector will also allow students to interact with the teacher and each other effective to enhance academic success. Games can be displayed to support the material taught as a resource for mastery, and students can complete projects and share what they have learned with their classmates by the use of the projector.

Your help will ensure that my students will receive the absolute best education possible. It will also assist in showing them their full potential and how it is not based on where they live or what they have to offer. You will assist me in showing these students they also rank with the top in the State of Virginia.
