Traveling Classroom!!! I teach 7th Grade Life Science in a very diverse inner-city school. We have a wide range of students from special needs to low income families. My students are awesome and are eager to learn new things. They are mine for an entire year and that is an awesome responsibility!

I believe that students need to experience the world around them as many are stuck in their little areas of the city and never stray from home. This is where I come in. I feel that students need real-life, hands-on experiences outside of the classroom. I have taken 150 to the Everglades in Florida; 80 to the Rainforest in Costa Rica; 20 each year to Montana to study our natural resources (logging, farming, mining, forestry; and many, many more destinations that I have not listed. These experiences are not just about traveling, but course content standards both on the district and national level. My students complete a series of journals as well as investigations that enhance the learning from the classroom but they get to actually apply it to the world around them. I have also found that my most troubled (behavior problem) students are more attentive and never seem to give me problems on these trips. I love it and can't wait for the next plane ride/classroom experience!

The trips I take are not the sit down and learn, they are the get up and get dirty. This is where I need the High Powered Digital Cameras that are durable for the the hikes, snorkeling, rain and mud that we work with. In the past, the cameras I used didn't take pictures fast enough and my students missed the perfect shot of the Giant Moose that passed our bus in Montana or the Sloth that came down from the trees in Costa Rica (Awesome Sight). Most of the pictures that we take come back blurry or the digital camera that I can afford is just cheap and doesn't capture the true moment.

In providing my classroom with these cameras, I can allow students to rotate them amongst the group and photograph as well as video small segments of our journey. Creating the moment is one thing, bringing it back to their family, friends and others around the school - PRICELESS Life-Long memories!!!
