This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Motivating Children To Read
I am a second grade teacher in Maryland. Every year I am faced with the challenge of motivating children to read outside of school.
The love of reading is something I try to impose on my students every year. Many students read in school but do not pick up books at home. Also, many students do not have books at home. My students are currently in a reading race. There is a new race each week. The prize for the winner is a new book to add to their library at home. The students are excited about this challenge. I am unable to buy enough books for this race.
Students reading daily helps to increase fluency which is the ability to read accurately and quickly. My students need improvement in the area of fluency. Their participation in the reading race will motivate them to read and increase their fluency. They will enjoy reading and will love a chance to win a new book for their home library.
Your help will make it possible for my students to love reading. Your help will motivate a lot of children to read.
