Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach 6th grade in a self contained classroom. My school is devoted to making a difference in the life of each student not only in education but by being an influence in their urban environment. It is our goal that students recognize a sense of self and empowerment for reading.

Students come from low-income single-family homes. They are also not encouraged to read at home, that is why we as teachers must encourage our students to read novels that will best interest them.

Books are a great need because they are necessary in promoting literacy, learning life lessons through themes, and encouraging students to read in order to grow.

Your help will not only support the classroom but also aide in the development of the minds of our future. This gift will allow students to look at the world with open eyes and to not only ask for change, but to take action in making sure a change occurs.
