I'm Not Weird--I'm Gifted!

My music project needs 5 tambourines, a blues harmonica, 30 sets of drum sticks and 17 recorders.

I teach Talented and Gifted students in grades 4-8 in a high needs area in our district. My students are highly qualified in at least three or more areas. I want to incorporate the Theory of Multiple Intelligences into my classroom by adding music into our curriculum.

My students live in a rural community and I want to enrich their viewpoints by teaching them about different people and cultures in the world. We have a very low minority population in our district. I want them to hear music from a different part of the world and make their own.

Music is basic to the creative part of being human. My students will study how flutes found in France dating from 25,000 years ago show that music making goes all the way back to the Ice Age. We will incorporate playing the recorder with this lesson. Also, students will be making an African drum and singing the blues.

Your help will ensure that my students will be incorporating music into the curriculum. The arts are often left out in schools especially with all of the pressure of testing. You will make it possible for my students to participate in a lesson where instruments are actually used instead of looking at pictures of them in a book. Also, many of my students are missing their music time to come to my classroom. They are giving up that special to visit my room. I must incorporate music into my lessons!
