Getting a SmartBoard would nice, but it just wouldn't be very practical for me in my school. A projector is more practical. I teach middle school science in an Ohio, high poverty, urban public school.

Our school was built in 1922. The paint may be pealing from the ceiling, my sink is a water jug and a five gallon bucket,yet the students in our school averaged a 93.6% attendance rate for last year. Also, my science class outperformed our district on the 8th grade Ohio Achievement Test and fell just short of the state average. I'm very proud of our kids!

I feel a multimedia projector would be more practical than a SmartBoard . The greatest use I would have for the projector would be the ability to project notes and diagrams during a lecture. Right now I have to make extra copies of any reading or notes because of the condition of the text books or the fact that I only 2 of the 3 versions in the series. Also, to have the means to show and work on web pages without 30 students crowded around a single computer screen would be fantastic.

Some day,students will be expected to perform in a global economy. I know my students will become productive members in society. It would just be nice to take the "dis- off from advantage" for my kids. once.
