History Comes Alive

My students need books on tape about historical figures to help these people come alive.

I teach Kindergarten in a Title I school. Almost 85% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Money is very tight in our school district. They have cut many programs and funds, including money for classroom supplies.

My students come to school without any real exposure to history and historical people. Many of them have heard of George Washington and Abe Lincoln, but don't really know what they did. Some believe that Martin Luther King, Jr. was President of the United States.

I would love to add these Historical Biographies to my listening center. I can talk about these people. We can discuss these people, and they can color pictures of them. But I believe that hearing these stories will help these people come alive for my students. These read-along biographies can build a strong historical foundation in my students that will last a life time.
