Much Ado About Scripts

My students need 30 copies of 2 No Fear Shakespeare editions, for the plays "Much Ado About Nothing" and "The Taming of the Shrew".

I am a high school theater arts teacher. My goal as a teacher is to guide my students to better learning experiences. I deal with a variety of teenagers who come from different family situations. I also teach in a small farming town so classic literature such as Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing is rarely taught and seldom understood. I feel that these plays will help my students understand that Shakespeare’s plays are enjoyable and his language can be understood. I also feel that these plays can and will broaden their intellectual horizons showing them the lighter and wittier side of Shakespeare. In doing this my students can add another page to their educational book as they begin to see the broader world that surrounds them.

As I mentioned previously we live in a small farming community; the majority of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Funds are tight and are currently being used to up-date the facilities technology departments. Since the arts are not considered a priority the drama department is in need of extra funds to help increase the schools script library.

The scripts of Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing are full of comedy and a good introduction to the complicated world of Shakespeare. They are also part of the series “NO FEAR SHAKESPEARE”. The format when put into “NO FEAR SHAKESPEAR” is ingenious, on the left hand side of the book is the original Shakespearian text, and then directly across is a translation into a modern text complete with footnotes and extra commentary to help the students comprehend the time period and social situations.

Your generous donation will give my students a new learning experience. By studying Shakespeare their vocabulary will increase as well as their ACT and SAT scores: enabling some students who are unable to afford collage to receive scholarships. I teach to inspire the younger generation to live up to their potential; with your assistance we truly can change lives.
